The Monkey Song

People often ask me what the first song I ever wrote was. I also often lie about questions people ask me in order to come up with a reason to share something of mine. That happens to be the case in this scenario.

So to answer the initial question that no one asked, the first song I ever wrote is called The Monkey Song. I wrote it in 2002 while in the country of Sri Lanka. I was sent through my high school as part of a program called Earthwatch. I was part of a research team that studied the social patterns of a specie of monkey called the Toque Macaque...or just Macaques as we called them. It was awesome. And maybe someday people will ask me about that and I'll share all my findings. But I began writing The Monkey Song while out in the jungles of Sri Lanka kicking it with some sweet monkeys. I made up the guitar part and finalized the lyrics upon my return to the states. And I never recorded it until last year when my friend Kathryn requested I do so in preparation for her trip to Sri Lanka. So thank you Kathryn for bringing the song back to life.

Highlights of the video to lookout for: my mustache and a sweet kazoo solo. Lowlights: everything else.
